Has your weight risen steadily over recent years? Do you ever wonder where that slim teenager who could consume anything without gaining a pound or two has disappeared? Have you made the phrase “maybe tomorrow” your mantra whenever you consider taking action? Or have you regretfully accepted that I am now you and that you are too occupied and set to change?

Let me tell you that this is not you if you make the right choices. If you want to feel successful, nothing is easy. There are numerous false promises about the one-and-only diet or exercise that will make you look like the picture. It takes time, effort, and, most importantly, mental discipline, I’m sorry to inform you.

I was the heaviest I had ever been at 83.5 kilograms six years ago, and at 44, it was getting harder to shift. I looked around for a great deal on a gym and found one. The only issue was that I had trouble getting myself to go. After the induction, you’re ready to go, so it was easy at first. However, after a few weeks, I just wanted to be home after work, and the mornings were too busy. How much additional cash did I waste before I decided to cancel? Is that tale a familiar one to you?

Try running instead. The Couch-to-5k app was one of the first things I found that helped me. It encourages you to split your time between running and walking until you complete the 5 kilometers. It takes longer to run than to walk when there are three scheduled runs per week.

The 5km Park Run, an international organization dedicated to getting people moving, is the next step. People of all ages, sizes, and abilities congregate at the starting line on a Saturday morning at 7 a.m. They keep track of how far you’ve come and share the results later that morning. PBs and how you stack up against the competition can be tracked.

The next step is to participate in an organized event after running with Park Run for some time. These are well-organized, and you can sign up for a variety of distances. This is an ideal time to attempt a 10 km. You can upgrade your training in line with the target date. When you finish the 10 km, you feel incredible.

What follows? You can compete in more races in an effort to beat your best time at 10 kilometers, but what about the half marathon? You’ll see half-marathon runners entering these events and thinking, “I can do that.” Additionally, you can achieve it; this is yet another objective to strive for. You’ll get there with additional training.

Keep in mind that you are the only competitor, and you haven’t come this far just to get here.
